C1. Development and promotion of agricultural products:
S/C 1.1. Development of fruit tree cultivation that is resilient to climate change:
PADERMO will support:
- The creation of 7,500 ha of new tree plantations of species adapted to arid climatic conditions (almond, carob, fig, and olive trees);
- The rehabilitation of 260 ha (carob and olive trees) of old plantations;
- The training and support of arborists (100 awareness sessions, 140 arboriculture training sessions, 48 producer training fields (CEP), producer exchange visits);
- The professional training of 12 young nursery growers, 50% of whom are women;
- Establishment of a model tree nursery in Driouch.
S/C 1.2. Animal sectors.
PADERMO will support the development of small ruminant farming and beekeeping through:
- The rehabilitation of 20 existing watering points and the creation of 12 new watering points;
- The creation and support of 6 ANOC livestock farmer groups;
- The strengthening of the technical and material capacities of around 500 goat farming households;
- Strengthening the equipment and training of 800 beekeepers, mostly young people;
- Training beekeepers in reindeer husbandry;
- Conducting a pilot operation on digital monitoring of beehives.
S/C 1.3. Promotion of local products:
PADERMO will support the establishment of around 60 AGRs promoting local products, which will improve the level of activity and income of rural households. The project will support the establishment and support of:
- 20 AGRs promoting flagship products (aromatic and medicinal plants, saffron, cactus, Ghodan figs, free-range chicken);
- 8 AGRs for other products (carob processing, cereals and natural jujubes, sheep fattening);
- Approximately 34 other promising types of AGRs (e.g., rabbit farming, hydroponic barley production, table olive preservation, etc.).
S/C 1.4. Resilient hydro-agricultural developments and rural infrastructure:
Through this sub-component, PADERMO aims to improve the condition and efficiency of hydro-agricultural developments, protect agricultural land from erosion, and open up rural areas through four areas of activity:
- Hydro-agricultural developments for an irrigated area of approximately 2,600 ha: concreting of 68 km of seguias, construction of seven diversion weirs, and training of agricultural water user associations;
- Rural roads: rehabilitation of 108 km of roads and training in maintenance for local authority officials;
- Protection of land against erosion: construction of 81,000 m3 of gabions and CES action on approximately 1,000 ha of erosion-prone planting areas;
- Support for water governance and climate resilience through the financing of an operational research and development program focused on water resource management for irrigation and a pilot installation of agro-meteorological stations and 360 connected soil sensors.
Component 2. Support for producers and product marketing
S/C 2.1. Literacy and financial education:
PADERMO will support the implementation of the following programs:
- Basic and functional literacy, enabling 4,900 people to learn to read and calculate, thereby strengthening their capacity to manage socio-economic activities and their empowerment;
- Financial education for 10,000 people, to introduce them to and facilitate their access to the financial instruments offered by banks.
S/C 2.2. Training and advisory support for business management:
PADERMO aims to promote entrepreneurship among rural youth in the project area by supporting:
- The creation and support of eight professional teams, including six agricultural service cooperatives (e.g., orchard maintenance) and two digital agricultural service cooperatives; the creation and support of 12 agri-tech innovation micro-enterprises for young people;
- Support for 80 agricultural producer organizations in the form of organizational diagnosis, action plan development, training for managers, and specific training).
S/C 2.3. Product promotion and marketing:
PADERMO will support:
- The rehabilitation, upgrading, and support of 15 existing value-added units (VU) engaged in various activities (olive crushing, milk collection center, almond crushing, cheese making, honey production);
- The creation and support of 5 new VUs (carob processing (2), olive pomace processing, almond crushing, honey production, quince storage and packaging);
- Support for product marketing through the organization of communication, marketing, and promotion campaigns, B2B (business-to-business) meetings, and participation in exhibitions.
